Below are images of me expecting to be congratulated for putting on clothes. Suitable for framing, shrines, or dartboards. If you are interested in seeing photos of the plants and animals I encounter on my outdoor excursions, look here.
On my way to a fundraiser party at Bartram's Garden. Suit by Duchess. Gray wool cloak a gift from Bill Smith. Ponytail by midlife crisis.
A frontispiece photo for the next book. Hat or salad: you be the judge.
A frontispiece photo for the next book. The boots, patched and tattered from my travels through swamps and forests, are on the verge of falling apart. They do not ask for your pity: they have lived fully.
Me at an AIDS charity fundraiser. Rumpled, knockabout summer linen suits are the perfect expression of informal formality. The huge nipple orchid was a gift left by the stylist from Interview when they shot me at my house last spring. Thank you, Miguel!
Rose Callahan spent a cloudy afternoon in my house. I love this gaudy electric blue robe with its dragons--it sets off the navy blues and orange-reds. There may be something masculine about this photo, but damned if I can find it. You can see more here.
Here I'm wearing a wonderfully cozy gift: a made-to-measure blue velvet jacket from Duchess Clothier, and my favorite pair of black watch plaid bespoke trousers made from Holland & Sherry wool, courtesy of Lord Willy's of New York.
At Bartram's Garden, giving a lecture to a class from UPenn about the nonsense in my book, which was part of their curriculum. I brought along one of my terrarium gardens which held Venus Flytraps--one of the many plants the Bartrams had introduced to cultivation.
In my library wearing my made-to-measure blue velvet suit from Duchess Clothier, with one of my new shirts from Simone Abbarchi of Florence. Click picture or follow this link to my journal for more images.

In my den wearing my made-to-measure slate blue windowpane-pattern suit from Duchess Clothier, with one of my new shirts from Simone Abbarchi of Florence. Click picture to see larger image, or follow this link to my journal for more photos and preening blather.
Lounging in my house. Linen rumples are a welcome summertime indulgence. I just love summer--I can watch it from my window for hours.
A larval popinjay at his father's knee, five years old.
Looking far too serious, about to preside over a friend's wedding ceremony. Such an occasion calls for a dignified execution, and so nothing less will do than my bespoke suit by Lord Willy's. The pocket square may not toe the line, but it's a wedding, not a funeral.
In front of my tailor's, Lord Willy's, in my bespoke Blackwatch tartan two-piece. The thrifted cordovan ankle boots have a plummy sheen, which rhymes with the purples in the tie and shirt.
Photo by Adam Wallacavage for Swindle.
People ask about them, so here: Custom labels for all my Lord Willys suits. Only ten thousand labels to go, I'm told.
A lovely scarf made by Michelle McCoskey, artist, friend and queen of crochet. Thank you, Michelle.
Haven't seem my chin in years, so I keep this here as a memento.
Flying "Ol' Moth-n-Bugs".
A profile from the distant past, which became...
Dandy candy! Warhol would have been jealous.
This was taken during my "cocaine years."
At a summer garden party. It takes a giant golden swan to make this outfit look even remotely sensible.
Gentlemen: if you use a parasol and cannot get punched or insulted, you're doing it wrong.
I miss my waxed moustache sometimes.

My favorite shoes. So ridiculously precious, fit only for indoor use. Just the thing for a knight of the carpet.
